The recent American Le Mans Series (AMLS) qualifying race that took place in Long Beach, California was a success for Acura Motorsports team.

For the first time, Acura earned its pole position during the qualifying race last Friday, thanks to Dario Franchitti who entered the race behind the steering wheel of the No. 26 XM Satellite Radio AGR Acura ARX-01a with Acura exhaust. Franchitti finished his last lap within one 1 minute and 11.838 seconds. Stefan Johansson, member of Highcroft Racing entered the qualifying race in the LP2M class aboard the Acura ARX-01a finished the race with qualifying time of 1:12.844, allowing him to obtain the fourth spot.

Meanwhile, Adrian Fernandez clocked in at 1:13.148, his best qualifying time in Long Beach. The Mexican driver took his No.15 Lowe’s Fernandez Acura Lola in the race.

Here is what the three Acura drivers said after the ALMS Long Beach qualifying race.

Dario Franchitti (No. 26 XM Satellite Radio AGR Acura ARX-01a): “I am getting used to the track with each run. It has been five years since I have run here. Trying to get a lap together is difficult with all of the traffic. But at the end I was able to get a pretty clean lap. Actually, I almost had to stop coming down for the final lap. So I was a little surprised by the time of the lap. But I knew I had a shot at the pole if I got a clear lap. It is very exciting to win Acura’s first pole. Bryan [Herta] has been waiting to come back here. When I jumped in the car this morning, Bryan tapped me on the helmet and said, `Hey, it’s Long Beach. Have fun!’ It is always great to race here. I hope we can put together a solid race and win here. Bryan and I have been trying to win here for many years. It would be a tre- mendous thrill to win at Long Beach. “

Adrian Fernandez (No. 15 Lowe’s Fernandez Acura Lola 06/40) “I hit a slower car that was coming out of the pits. I think it was the Mazda. But that car was going very slow. I clipped it and we had to come in and change the front nose. The new nose was dragging a little too much after we changed to it. I don’t think our car is too far off for the race. Luis [Diaz] and I have raced here previously, so I think we’ll have a competitive car for Saturday. It is great to race the Acura in the company’s backyard here in Southern California. We are very excited to be here.”

Stefan Johansson (No. 9 Highcroft Racing Acura ARX-01a, equipped with Acura exhaust system): “We are getting closer with the new Acura chassis. The engine feels good. I thought we had a chance to run a little quicker but we ran out of time. I really like being back and racing at Long Beach. It has been ten years or so for me. It took a little time to learn the new sections of the track and it is a little different with the ALMS car than the Champ Car. We had a couple of problems in practice this morning and, with the limited time here, that hurt us a bit. But we feel good about the race.”

Forza Motorsport is a racing simulation. This is the opponent of the Gran Turismo sequence. This is the Microsoft’s counter to the domination of PlayStation in the racing simulation market.

If you’re not sure about buying the game you can download its demo from the Xbox Live Market. If you buy the full version the first time you put the CD in your Xbox it will ask you if you want to install the extra content that comes on the second CD of Forza Motorsport 3.

I recommend doing it because the second CD contains about another hundred cars and some new tracks. The additional content will only take about 2 GB of space. If you don’t have enough free storage you may not install the CD but you will miss a lot of fun.

The graphics are just incredible . If you play on high definition TV they look even better. In HD it just looks so clean. The cars have been designed with all the particulars of the actual one. It’s clear that the designers have spend quite a time on it and it have paid off.

There are more cars to chose from than you can ever remember. Forza 3 offers you about 400 cars from over 50 manufacturers. Its direct opponent Gran Turismo offers about 700 cars but I don’t think that really maters. The customization now is much simpler. You will be stunned of the work some guys have done.

Most of you will like Forza Motorsport 3 just because it offers something for everyone. If you like easier games where you don’t have to spend much time learning the controls Forza have some aids that will help you. If you are looking for authentic racing simulation than all you have to do is to adjust the difficulty and you have one of the most realistic racing games out there. In some races you are truly challenged and you will have to do tens of attempts to get to first position.

As all of the games Forza Motorsport 3 has it flaws. First the cost of the upgrades is just cosmic, it’s ridiculous. What ever upgrades you chose you will be broke through the whole game, you will never have spare capital. Another problem I spotted is that the gauges in some of the cars don’t work properly.

Bottom line Forza Motorsport might be rejected from the Gran Turismo fans as it doesn’t have as much cars and for other reasons. And maybe it really isn’t as good but again if you don’t have PlayStation 3 then Forza Motorsport is your option. And who knows maybe the next Forza will not only mach Gran Turismo but actually beat it.

With its elongated bonnet, flared wheel arches, long wheel base and narrow projections, the BMW Z4 boasts an unmistakable appearance. The two-seater provided BMW Motorsport engineers with a good basis for developing a production-based GT3 racing car. The largest difference between production and racing car can be found under the bonnet: while the production version of the BMW Z4 is driven by a six-cylinder engine, the GT3 car is powered by a 4.0-litre eight-cylinder engine derived from the series unit used in the BMW M3. This powerful heart produces approx. 480 bhp.

During the development, BMW Motorsport engineers worked hand in hand in other areas with their colleagues from series production. This allowed them to access calculations from the field of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) when designing the car’s aerodynamics. Furthermore, tests were also carried out in the wind tunnel and on the BMW Group’s test benches. Front and rear wings, bonnet, roof, fenders and many other components are made of carbon fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP). Using this lightweight, torsion-resistant material contributed significantly to reducing the weight of the BMW Z4 GT3 to approx. 1,190 kilograms.
