It was only last year that Acura celebrated its 20th birthday. It seems like only yesterday when Acura has brought the world its sporty Integra two-and four-door compact coupe and sedan together with its V6 powered legend four-door midsized sedan. And from then on Acura, Honda’s upscale brand has turned into a major key player in the US automotive market.
Acuras have also emerged as a power on the sports racing department. Motorsports aficionados have been following Acuras in the racing circuits while privateers have been campaigning Integras, RSXs, and NSXs to racing championships for many years now. Despite the fact that Acura has grown into a profitable brand it has preferred to leave factory backed efforts to Honda, the largest engine maker in the world.
Acura has expanded its reach and have started hitting the shores of China last year. And for 2008, Honda will officially introduce the Acura brand in the Japanese market. At present Acuras are sold under the Honda badge in Japan. The main purpose of such move is to market the Acura brand as an international brand and it can also be concluded that this move is born out from the natural desire for competition similar to when Acura decide to join the big-time motorsports competition.
Currently the automaker is officially supporting three LMP2 class cars for this year’s American Le Mans Series (ALMS) campaign and will be supplying the chassis work for two of them. The opening of the ALMS at the 12 Hours of Sebring has proven a fruitful one for Honda with the Acura Andretti Racing team scoring a class win and placing second overall behind Audi’s super powerful LMP1 car. The two other Acura powered teams namely the Fernandez Racing and Highcroft Racing also did well , and has garnered second and fourth in the LMP2 class, respectively.
All of Acura’s ALMS efforts were formulated at the Honda Performance Development (HPD) center in Santa Clarita, California which is approximately 60 miles away from Long Beach. The HPD was founded in 1993 and since then been utilized as an instrument in the development of Honda’s Champ Car and IRL teams. It employs some 120 engineers, technicians, and mechanics.
The HPD facility is also where vital components that the ALMS teams will use such as Acura RSX performance parts are developed. The facility is equipped with five dynos which include a transmission dyno that are utilized for the development of electronic systems such as traction control. Unlike any automotive facility the HPD possess environmentally friendly features like for instance the byproduct of electric dynos is ice which is then used to cool the building and the machineries inside the facility. Catalytic converters are also used on all gasoline powered equipment to keep emissions as low as possible.
Fernandez who is a longtime Honda partner will be lending a hand in helping the HPD massage the gas-powered 3.4 liter V8 that powers all three cars and is presently using a Lola chassis to remove the Acura underpinnings as a variable. The engine revs up somewhere 550 horsepower—this is not the official figure since the team preferred to keep a secret.
Roger Griffiths, HPD Technical Group Leader said, “There are two things I always say I don’t discuss. How much horsepower we have and how much money it cost us.” Despite how hard the team tries to keep it as a secret but its obvious how the Griffiths and company are particularly proud of the engine which is the first to be ever created by HPD.
The Acura LMP2 car is a real screamer and mind you it’s really loud. Fortunately the ALMS governing body makes sure that the engine will not exceed 113 decibels at any given time. The Acura engine runs somewhere between 116-117 decibels which is quite close to what a jet produces at around 120, this particular trait of the Acura engine can help you to distinguish it even when you’re not looking.
The Highcroft Racing which is a new team is concentrating in updating and improving the Acura ARX 01 A chassis which started life as a Courage. However not everything the is Courage was removed or changed, there were also some parts that remained like the tub, crashbox, and the gearbox—all the rest have been re-engineered by the HPD team.
Andretti team which was the most established team among the three will obtain the benefits of the engine as well as the improvements done on the chassis in order to produce the most powerful Acura car ever developed. Highcroft driver David Brabham said, “We’ve got a good car and a good group of drivers, so I think we have a really strong package early in the season.”
At Long Beach the Highcroft team was able to snap a fourth place which was the best Acura result of the weekend. On the other hand the Andretti Racing after taking the top qualifying position has finished sixth and this is attributed to the faulty pit strategy that the team employed. The Fernandez Racing team grab seventh place.

I found something online the other day that really got me laughing. There are people out there who are calling themselves ‘online motorsports marketing specialists’! In this digital age I suppose anything is possible and we do live in a country of free enterprise. But I do find this somewhat amusing. If you are doing online marketing then you are an online marketing specialist period. I find the slight distinction of adding a motorsports classification unnecessary. This doesn’t make the specialist better or worse as long as they are masters of their own objectives. In this case, marketing Yamaha atv parts, Kawasaki oem parts, or any type of Honda motorcycles.
When I was in New York I served as an art director working for various advertising groups. I noticed this sort of behavior when I worked professionally. There were graphic designers who called themselves, ‘Chiropractic Graphic Designers’ or ‘Medical Graphic Designers’ and I never understood this. All of a sudden a graphic designer had to have a medical degree to create 2D and 3D designs for the medical community. This whole notion is just absurd. When I was in the art direction and advertising game we had our own name for graphic designers. We used to call each other pixel jockeys. It’s not very nice or very complimentary but that was what we were. In my opinion we were nothing more than replaceable dreamers, hustlers, and panic driven job takers working on the scene.
Do these pretentious graphic designers and marketing guys really expect motorsports dealerships to buy into this ragged notion? If you are trying to sell Yamaha atv parts online and are looking for the next best thing you should get someone who has a fundamental idea of how to sell period. Getting a website that offers nothing more than pictures and prices will not be enough to get the job done. A lot of these sites are built wrong in the first place. I come across a lot of these sites that are loaded with Flash animations and have excessive javascript. Beyond anti friendly SEO, (search engine optimization) there is nothing to distinguish this type of marketer as opposed to someone who really knows what they are doing.
It takes a lot of work, blood – sweat and tears to get your websites listed on major search engines. Think of it this way. If you want your Yamaha motorsports dealership to pop up on the search engines you need to beat 5 million competing sites on the average. This is a very serious number to try and beat online because the competition is very fierce. You need to pay attention and to deliver high quality web content out there. It makes little difference if you are a motorsports, ATV, or motorcycle expert or not. It helps of course to write endearing content for the search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo but for the most part you need to understand how search engines really work. You need to know how search engines display the web content in your web sites. This is especially important if you want to sell Yamaha atv parts online and Kawasaki motorcycle parts.
June fifteenth this year would be the day when the Boy Scouts of America’s Cascade Pacific Council would be honoring the Ford Motor Company. The company would be given by the mentioned council as the Motorsports Company of the Year. Such an event would take place during the council’s 17th yearly Motorsports Breakfast which would be held in Portland, Oregon. In fact, this breakfast is essentially done as an element of the activities and events of the Grand Prix of Portland which is an annual stop of the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford.
It was Ron Bennett who presented and gave the Motorsports Company of the Year award to the Ford Motor Company. Ron Bennett is one of the members of the Motorsports Breakfast Steering Council . While respecting the company, he declares, “There are a lot of likenesses between the Ford Motor Company and the Boy Scouts. The perfect example is the Pinewood Derby. We both exercise imaginations and study the trials and tribulations of building the perfect race automobile. From planning the automobile, putting the weights and even developing paint schemes, the Scouts make preparations for their races in pretty much the same way our engineers test and develop our race cars.”
This award is a distinction that is recognized well enough by the company. Essentially, Jamie Allison, the manager for the Ford Racing Performance Group, had things to say about this. He states, “It is an honor to be recognized by the Cascade Pacific Council, Boy Scouts of America. I am privileged to accept this award on behalf of Ford Racing Technology and Ford Racing Technology and Ford Racing. It for us to be recognized by an association that has such an effect on the young folks of the Portland area and across the country.” With the various sorts of awards and accolades that the company has received through the years, this award would be another one that would be part of the corporation’s treasure.
Team Vodafone McLaren Mercedes is currently on top of the constructor’s standings in this year’s Formula One season. One reason for this is the rivalry between double world champion Fernando Alonso and rookie sensation Lewis Hamilton. While critics have been pointing out that McLaren’s call to have the two competing equally, the British Formula One team is adamant that the competition between the two world-class drivers is good for the team.
Mercedes-Benz motorsports boss Norbert Haug is unwavering in his position that McLaren Mercedes is doing the right thing concerning the way it treat its drivers. Haug said that the competition would mean that neither Alonso nor Hamilton will be able to rest on their laurels and become complacent.
“If a newspaper sends two news hounds to the paddock, then it is very likely that they do more research and will find out more than if they send someone alone,” said Haug. “We relish competition. If that remains within a sporting and fair frame, it pushes the team forwards. So I firmly believe that every team aim at having two equally strong drivers, but perhaps only half of all the teams managed to find them.”
While some critics are pointing out that the team is favoring Hamilton because he is British, Haug is quick to deny the rumor. He said that they are treating their drivers equally.
“I think you can forget about that straight away. It was even said how we reacted joyfully on Lewis’ quickest lap in Canada. Well, whoever stated that, conveniently forgot how much we cheered for Fernando being on the way to quickest lap and how disappointed we were when it did not happen,” he said. “You always follow with passion the driver who is on a hot lap. But that has nothing to do with the fact that Lewis is a Briton.”
Haug also pointed out that the double world champion is still in the process of adapting into the McLaren system but denied rumors that Hamilton has been with the team for years now. “It is completely clear that Fernando is still feeling his way into our team. On the other hand, I am quite intrigued by stories I hear about Lewis having seven or eight years of experience with the Formula One team. That is simply not true. He simply knows us quite well, that is all.”
“But why would we try to get a two-time world champion and then give him lesser material?” pointed out Haug in response to rumors saying that the team favors Hamilton. “People who know McLaren-Mercedes know that we are always fair to our drivers. If we were not, I think you would not see duels such as the one in Indianapolis.”
“I also think that the fans appreciate that. I can also understand if the media try to create some controversy about two equally strong teammates,” concluded Haug.
Alonso and Hamilton are using the same MP4-22 Formula One car with a Mercedes-Benz engine and operates as smooth as a Mercedes-Benz washer pump. Hamilton currently leads Alonso in the drivers’ standings. In eight races so far, the Briton has scored eight podium finishes, two of which are wins. Alonso also has two wins, but failed to take podium finishes in all his races this season.
