The Chilean tennis player, Fernando Gonzalez, a semifinalist at Roland Garros in 2009, defeated this Monday May 24th in the first round of the Roland Garros, the Brazilian Thiago Alves with a score of 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in two hours and 17 minutes. Gonzalez, who is ranked 13th in the ATP rankings, had not played a match since losing in the first round of Barcelona, against the Spanish Albert Ramos Viñolas. Some injuries left the Chilean player out of the clay-surfaced tournament. He was unable to compete in the Masters 1000 of Monte Carlo, Rome or Madrid.
The Chilean had to struggle against the Brazilian but appealed to his service as his primary weapon and even though he didn’t have a good percentage, he completed 21 aces.
Gonzalez kept his focus since the beginning of the match against Alves. With a deep drive and a powerful service, the triple Olympic medalist overturned any reaction from his opponent. He took the set comfortably after breaking in the fifth and seventh games to win 6-2.
However, Alves fought back in the second set and surprised Gonzalez, who slightly lost his effectiveness and began to make frequent mistakes in the rallies from the baseline. By breaking the Chilean in the fourth and tenth games, Alves obtained the victory in the second set with a 4-6 and tied the match a set each.
In the third set, the Brazilian got excited and began to apply his best tennis. But “Feña” aware of his greater experience in big tournaments, as well as in the circuit, reacted in the best way and played as a top-20 player. pressed at the right moment to break Alves and obtained the victory of the third set with a 6-4.
In the deciding set, Gonzalez improved his game. He refined his shots and showed that he was willing to go in search of at least the semifinals, which he reached last year at Roland Garros. The game ended after two hours and 16 minutes when Gonzales won the set 6-4.
At the end of the match, Gonzalez seemed a little tired but grateful about the victory. It was a very tough match for the Chilean. Now he is focusing on his next game and getting into the semifinals. We just hope that the Chilean can keep his good health and his best tennis for the following match.
With this result, the Chilean registered a 2-0 record over Alves. His first triumph over the Brazilian was accomplished in the ATP tournament held in Viña del Mar during 2007. There he won 6-2, 6-2.
Now Gonzalez is in search for a ticket to the third round. Chile´s best racket will face the winner of the match between French Arnaud Clement (world No.76) and Ukrainian Oleksandr Dolgopolov (world No. 56) on Wednesday May 26th.
Golf is one of the most widely played sports in the world, and is enjoyed by millions. It allows you to get outside and get some fresh air and sun, while playing a game that requires lots of skill and prowess. When you start golfing, you will need some clubs to bring along with you. There are 14 clubs in a true set, but to start off with you only need about half of these. There are three main types of clubs, and these are irons, woods, and putters. By buying the right combination of these, you can be set for an entire game. However, to call them “cheap” would be an utter lie. Golf clubs are very expensive. If you are not sure whether you are going to stick with the sport or not, it is probably a good idea to start with used golf clubs or otherwise cheap golf clubs.
Imagine all of the more hardcore golfers, and what their new equipment looks like. They probably replaced some perfectly good clubs just a few months ago in order to get the new and the best clubs. Few people really need this level of commitment to buying the new golf clubs all of the time, so you don’t need to hold yourself to the same standards that they do. Instead, you can take advantage of their constant turnover rate of golf clubs. Just talk to one of these hardcore golfers, and find out about their old golf clubs. You may find out that they have dozens of old golf club sets stored away in their garage. You can either ask to borrow them for a long period of time, or simply buy them. You may find that they are happy to let you have the old golf clubs.
If you aren’t fortunate enough to have this kind of contact, you can look in other venues for used golf clubs. Many golf club stores stock used clubs in their inventory at a highly discounted rate. However, oftentimes this is more expensive than the other choices. Look on eBay to find out the selling rates for the used golf clubs that you are wanting to buy. You may also be able to find golf clubs at yard sales, in classifieds listings, or on web sites like CraigsList.com. It is best to check all of these places before you buy golf clubs. You may find it one place for hundreds of dollars cheaper than it is at the other place.
Golf can be very hard on golf clubs, especially if you are a beginner with a penchant for smacking the ground with your club. If you buy new clubs and abuse them so thoroughly, you will likely be kicking yourself wishing that you hadn’t spent so much money on them. This is another reason why it is good to stick with used clubs. When you break them, scuff them, or lose them, you won’t feel too bad about it. You will find that many seasoned golf veterans are huge advocates of purchasing used clubs. If you buy used clubs rather than new clubs, you will likely have a much happier experience overall. Just be sure to buy your used golf clubs from somewhere that you can trust.

The island of Menorca is a great place for sun, sand, and surf – less known is that it’s also a great place for sports – motorsports that is, especially the Formula 1 kind.
Late 2007 saw some F1 teams hop over to Menorca to utilize the Real Aeroclub de Mahon airstrip for testing. This airfield, under the care of club president Jose Villalonga, is close to 2 kilometers long. It’s an ideal strip for aerodynamic and speed testing fine-tuned Formula 1 racecars.
Menorca is part of the Balearic Islands, which belong to Spain. It’s located in the western Mediterranean and is actually part of an archipelago. This archipelago includes Majorca, Ibiza, Formentera, and other islands. Mahon is the largest city on this island, an island with over 120 beaches. These beaches are especially suitable for unwinding after a wild day of high-speed test-driving.
One team to test here was Ferrari. Spanish driver Marc Gene was their tester. Ferrari tested cars for 2008, when they will attempt to defend their Formula 1 title. The Ferrari cars of Kimi Raikkonen, the Finnish defending driver’s Champion, and Felipe Massa of Brazil were tested here.
Mercedes McLaren and Honda also tested their cars on this privately- owned airfield on Menorca. BMW Sauber and Toyota are interested in this ‘straight-line’ testing for 2008 as well. They plan to be on Menorca to put their cars through their grueling paces. Jose Villalonga has the welcome mat out to encourage these state-of-the-art car teams to visit Menorca.
The airstrip at Mahon recently underwent repairs to enhance its safety. It’s now faster, with an ideal surface for this ‘straight-line’ testing. These high-performance Formula 1 cars are the thoroughbreds of motorsports with amazing ‘horsepower’.
Ferrari, seeking to remain the number one Grand Prix circuit team, tested their high-tech machines at speeds up to 300 kilometers per hour. That’s also how fast thoughts of the workplace disappear, once you’re on this lush island known for its leisure qualities.
Ferrari has fifty-seven years of competition under their belts in Formula 1. Their first F1 race was May 21, 1950 in Monaco. In 2007, they stood atop the podium as champions once again. Theirs is a rich history filled with the joy and heartbreak that is part of the Grand Prix circuit.
This famous racing company also recently unveiled their new F2008 F1 car. Ready for the new season that kicks off in Australia, this racecar was first tested under the guidance of Kimi Raikkonen in early January. To conform to new regulations the car is heavier. It also has new gearbox specifications, and a new standard electronic system that all Formula 1 cars must use.
This is the 54th F1 car that Ferrari has issued for racing in their long history. It’s another version of the classic red flash motorsports fans are used to seeing on the Grand Prix raceways.
Formula one teams like Ferrari, McLaren, and Honda added an element of high-speed excitement to Menorca. The thrill of racing was a counterpoint to the tranquil atmosphere of this island oasis.
What more could F1 testers ask for? They had breezy island charms and F1′s chills-down-your-spine excitement all at one time in Menorca.
They should be rested and ready to go in March when the new Formula 1 season begins.
